Common Prestige hob problems we fix
Burner lights but goes out when the knob is released
On a hob with a flame-failure device the knob has to be held in for a few seconds while the thermocouple warms up. If the flame still dies after that, the thermocouple tip is dirty, out of the flame or worn out: cleaned, set back in place or replaced.
Ignition keeps clicking on its own
Water or a spill that ran under a knob keeps the ignition switch closed, so the hob sparks with nothing turned on. Often it only needs drying out; a switch that stays shorted is replaced.
Gas smell around the hob
If you smell gas now, close the regulator or the PNG valve, do not touch any switch or light anything, open the doors and windows, and call 1906 for LPG or your PNG company. Book the check only once it is safe. Under a built-in hob the gas comes in through a joint you cannot see, so we leak-test the inlet, every valve and the hose or pipe behind it, lifting the hob out where we need to.
Knob loose, stiff or turning without control
A worn knob or a valve spindle that has dried out with heat. The knob is replaced or the valve cleaned and re-greased, then leak-tested.
Parts and warranty
Thermocouples, ignition switches, electrodes, knobs, burner caps and glass tops are the usual Prestige hob parts. Where Prestige supplies the part we fit it; where it does not, we fit a matched equivalent and say so on the bill. Our work carries our own service warranty; parts carry the maker's.
HouseTech Care is an independent multi-brand service, not Prestige's authorised service centre. We use genuine parts where the maker supplies them and say so when we cannot.
