Storage or instant geyser: which suits a tricity home

Both make hot water. They do it differently enough that the wrong choice is a daily annoyance for years.

Instant

A small unit, usually one to three litres, that heats water as it passes through. No waiting, no standing tank. It draws a lot of power for a short time, so it needs a properly rated circuit, and it serves one tap at a time — a shower and a basin together and both go lukewarm.

Storage

A tank of ten to twenty-five litres heated ahead of time and kept warm. Serves more than one outlet, gives a full bucket at steady temperature, and draws less power at any moment. It takes ten to twenty minutes to heat from cold and loses some heat standing.

Which for you

• Kitchen sink or a single basin: instant
• Bathroom with a shower, or two people getting ready together: storage
• Older wiring or a shared meter that trips easily: storage — its peak draw is lower
• Very hard water: storage, and budget for descaling — an instant's narrow heating path scales shut faster

Tricity groundwater is hard across most sectors. Whichever type you choose, ask about the anode rod (storage) or the descaling interval (instant) before you buy, not after the first winter.

Installation matters as much as the choice

A storage geyser mounted too high or too far from the tap wastes water and heat; an instant on an undersized circuit trips the MCB every cold morning. Both are installation faults, and both are avoidable if the fitter measures first.
