PNG connection in Chandigarh: what the pipeline installation actually involves

Piped gas has reached most of the tricity through IOAGPL, and the connection process confuses people mainly because two different parties do two different halves of it.

The supplier's half

The gas company brings the line to your building and fits the meter, the regulator and the isolation valve at your premises. That part is theirs, on their schedule, and you do not arrange a technician for it.

The internal half

From the meter to the appliance is your side. A licensed installer runs pipe from the meter along the wall, through to the kitchen, to a wall point near the hob, with an appliance valve at the end. Then a flexible connector from that valve to the hob or stove.

What gets fitted

• Rigid pipe — copper or approved composite — along the route, clipped to the wall
• Isolation valve near the appliance so it can be shut off at the kitchen
• A flexible connector rated for gas between the valve and the appliance
• Sleeves where the pipe passes through walls
• Pressure test of the whole run before it is connected to the meter

Before the visit

Decide where the hob will live — moving it later means re-running pipe. Clear the route along the wall. Have the appliance on site so the connector length is right. Know whether your stove or hob needs a PNG jet change — most LPG appliances do.

The internal line must be pressure-tested and signed off before the supplier opens the meter. Do not let anyone skip the test to save time. It is the one step that proves there is no leak in a pipe you cannot see.

How long

A typical flat is a half-day job for the internal run, plus the supplier's own schedule for the meter. Ask for the test certificate at the end.
